Rookie volunteer Serena Ross impressed everyone at Child Advocates with her dedication to her most recent case. The case, that of a 17 year old boy whose parents neglected to treat his diabetes resulting in 14 hospitalizations over 2 years, was bound to be difficult. Serena tackled the situation head-on by attending an all-day diabetes session at Texas Children’s Hospital, followed by a visit to the family’s house to sort through their food. She then purchased a remote device that allowed her to monitor his blood sugar. Since Serena started working on the case, the boy has not been hospitalized a single time.
Serena was our Rookie of the Year in 2011.
