2006 EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

The 14th Annual Pull for Kids Classic surpassed all expectations, raising over $515,000!

The clay shoot began bright and early at Westside Sporting Grounds, where 315 competitors enjoyed breakfast tacos from El Puerto Mexican Restaurant, listened to live music, lunched on hamburgers cooked on-site and served by Becks Prime and cooled off with plenty of cold beverages courtesy of Budweiser/Silver Eagle. A little friendly competition, a raffle, delicious food, good music and a sunny summer day proved to be the perfect ingredients for a good time.

“To Infinity and Beyond” was the theme for this year’s evening party, and with the hard work and dedication of Child Advocates’ staff and volunteers, the Houston Texans Practice Facility was transformed into outer space. Over 700 guests enjoyed the sights and sounds of the evening, including exhibits donated by NASA, a live astronaut, 22’ planet lights and stars twinkling overhead. The festivities offered a live and big board auction, a silent auction, a spectacular buffet by Cordura Catering and live music by Accent. Whether you danced the night away or took home an auction item, everyone left as “stars!”

Event chairs Dolly and Jeff Thomas led a fabulous committee that included members Jeff Birmingham, Susan and Monte Brown, Bill Burge, David Davis, Nolan Lehmann, Joan and Jim Prentice and Charlene and John Storms.

A video highlighting the impact of a court appointed advocate on abused and neglected children in our community paired with the encouragement of auctioneer, Jack Kendall, helped us break a new record for the “Sponsor a Child” portion of the live auction!

The 2006 Pull for Kids broke all records to date, but perhaps most importantly, it will help ensure more than 250 children have an advocate!
