When the oh-so-charming Oscar de la Renta is in the house, rest assured that the ladies who lunch are going to rise to the high-fashion occasion — just as they did recently for the Child Advocates "Angels of Hope" luncheon.

Chairs Lynda Transier in an Oscar pants ensemble and Yvonne Cormier in a luncheon dress by Akris set the stylish pace embraced by many of the 750 women packing the Westin Galleria Hotel ballroom.

Among those winning the designer's favor by donning Oscar were Karen Mayell, Cathy Campbell Hevrdjes, Shelly Ann Marks, Carolyn Irvine, Debra Grierson, Eileen Hricik, Alicia Smith and Laura Spalding, who wore vintage Oscar swiped from her mother's closet.

But the luncheon was about much more than the highly praised Neiman Marcus fashion presentation of Oscar's 2006 spring collection, introduced by Neiman's GM Bob Devlin. The event honored Page Parkes-Eveleth, recognized for her work as a Child Advocates Inc. court-appointed volunteer and for her commitment to Friends of Child Advocates. In the audience were her husband, Bob Eveleth, and, briefly, their three recently adopted young children.

The luncheon raised a record $285,000 net, a figure that will provide Child Advocates services for an additional 190 children.
