CHILD ADVOCATES, INC. SELECTED TO RECEIVE HP TECHNOLOGY FOR COMMUNITY GRANT
Technology boost to include $17,000 in wireless technology, cash and training

HOUSTON – (June 6, 2006) – Child Advocates, Inc. has been selected as one of 104 nonprofit organizations in the United States and Puerto Rico to receive an HP Technology for Community Grant valued at $17,000 in HP wireless technology.

The HP Technology for Community Grant Initiative is designed to provide technology tools to nonprofit organizations to enhance their effectiveness and to support the innovative use of mobile technology. The desired outcome is to build sustainability and capacity for both the nonprofits and the communities in which they serve.

Child Advocates will integrate the latest in HP technology, including five HP notebook PCs, one HP Tablet PC, one HP Pocket PC, a wireless ready HP digital projector and wireless remote control, a wireless ready HP all-in-one printer/scanner/fax/copier, a wireless access point and an HP digital camera bundle. In addition, Child Advocates will receive a cash stipend and training from HP to set up a new wireless network.

“This technology will greatly enhance our ability to carry out our mission to mobilize volunteers to speak up for abused and neglected children,” said Child Advocates CEO Sonya Galvan. “We have long believed that mobile technology could improve the efficiency of our professional caseworkers, who spend a significant portion of their time offsite each week. But as a non-profit organization, initial costs can be prohibitive to our ability to try out new technology.”

The grant offers Child Advocates an otherwise unavailable opportunity for a pilot project to determine the organization’s specific needs. With the information gathered, Child Advocates expects to be able to provide a persuasive argument for technology needs to other potential funders to help extend the technology beyond the pilot group to the entire staff.

"HP is dedicated to making a difference in all communities, especially those where our employees live and work," said Camilla Nelson, program manager, Corporate Philanthropy, HP. "From environment to community and economic development, the HP Technology for Community Grant helps nonprofits such as Child Advocates apply technology in meaningful and innovative ways to improve the quality of life for community residents."
