How did you become involved with YPC? It all started when I volunteered to make goodie bags for the Pull for Kids. I met with some of the CAI staff members, court appointed advocates, and YPC’ers and was really moved by the dedication each person had to Child Advocates. I found out that even as busy as these people were in their professional and personal lives, they still had time to make a difference in a child’s life. So I joined YPC, hoping to make a difference as well.

What has been the highlight of your involvement? The highlight of my involvement came when I helped out at my first children’s event - the Roller Rink Revelry! Some of the children were very reserved when they walked in the door, but once they saw the other kids (myself included!) out on the rink, they began to let loose and really have fun. By the time the party ended, all of the children had smiles on their faces - some of them didn’t even want to leave. That day, I was able to see the positive impact that these events had on the children, and I’ve participated in almost every CAI event since then. The smiles that I’ve gotten during and after an event are absolutely priceless!

Tell us something unique about yourself that most people don’t know: I’m a rockhound (in other words, I really like rocks). I’m part of a gem and mineral society, and I spend my free time finding gemstones, polishing them, and then, well, looking at them ... as I haven’t learned how to make jewelry out of them yet! It’s pretty exciting to be able to transform what looks like an ordinary rock into a unique and exquisite piece of art. It’s even better when you find out that that rock is actually a valuable gemstone instead!
