JOAN DAVIDSON
VOLUNTEER OF THE QUARTER, 2Q 2008

Court Appointed Advocate since
: 2006

How did you decide to become a Child Advocate volunteer? I first heard about Child Advocates from my son. He was going through the training but felt he didn't have the time with his job and three sons so he dropped out. I was very interested and felt that was what I was looking for when I retired. I wanted to continue to work with kids but wanted to really make a difference.

Your most memorable experience as a court appointed advocate ... When a little girl on my case was adopted by this really neat family. I had worked with her from the time she was born and this story had a very happy ending.

What is your life like outside of volunteering with Child Advocates? I have 5 of the most wonderful grandchildren that I enjoy so I go to lots of ballgames, horse shows, and swim meets. I also enjoy reading, sewing, playing bridge and water aerobics.

What inspires you to continue volunteering? I really enjoy it and feel I can make a difference. How can we complain about the state of the world if we aren't willing to do our part. I think I have found my spot.

Tips you’d give to people who are interested in volunteering for Child Advocates, but haven’t yet made the commitment. There is always support for you and someone to answer your questions. You can really make a difference in a child's life but they don't assign you to a case you can't handle. I have been very pleased with the support I have received as a volunteer. Also the smiles are worth it!
