MARCUS CHERY

Court Appointed Advocate since
: 2007

How did you decide to become a Child Advocate volunteer? One day in high school, in a speech class I had to do a presentation and I decided to write about how people should end child abuse. I researched child abuse, Child Advocates, and ways to prevent it. I presented my presentation on Child Advocates and fell in love with the organization ever since then.

Your most memorable experience as a court appointed advocate ... I would have to say it would have to be every time I visit the children on my case. They look forward to seeing me, they greet me with smiles and hugs and before I leave they ask when will I return.

What is your life like outside of volunteering with Child Advocates? I am a full time bank teller. When I am not at work I am reading, watching television, or spending time with my family and friends.

Tips you’d give to people who are interested in volunteering for Child Advocates, but haven’t yet made the commitment. Volunteering for Child Advocates, is really a different volunteer experience and it’s worth your time! Child Advocates is committed to breaking the cycle of child abuse. The staff of Child Advocates are committed with the same vision- they are always there to listen, train you, offer experience, knowledge and over all to help you along the way to make a difference in the life of an abused or neglected child.
