On May 13, Dwayne - once a child in foster care served by Child Advocates - stepped onto the field at a Houston Astros game to throw out the first pitch. It was a moment filled with pride and joy, made possible by the generous support of Quanta Services.
Dwayne’s journey to this moment wasn’t an easy one. He entered foster care in elementary school and, like many children in the system, experienced uncertainty early on. After his initial placement with foster parents, he was moved to a prospective adoptive home. When that placement unexpectedly fell through, Dwayne moved between foster homes that, despite best efforts, never quite felt like the right fit.
But sometimes, the right place is one that was there from the beginning.
When it became clear Dwayne craved a place to call home, his team reached back out to his original foster parents. Without hesitation, they welcomed him back. After returning, Dwayne shared a simple but powerful statement with his team: “I finally feel like I’m home.”
That sense of belonging became permanent in September 2025, when the family officially adopted Dwayne. On that day, he told the court it was the happiest moment of his life.
Today, Dwayne continues to stay connected with members of his biological family, supported by an adoptive family committed to honoring all parts of his story.
