Childspree: Helping Children Start the School Year with Confidence

This past weekend, hundreds of children served by Child Advocates experienced a morning filled with excitement, encouragement and new beginnings at our annual Childspree event. Thanks to the generosity of our volunteers, sponsors and community partners, children were able to shop for brand-new back-to-school clothing and receive backpacks filled with essential school supplies for the year ahead.

The impact of Childspree goes far beyond a shopping trip. For many children who have experienced abuse or neglect, the opportunity to choose their own clothes and prepare for the school year alongside a caring adult is a meaningful reminder that they are supported, valued and deserving of every opportunity to succeed.

Throughout the morning, volunteers served as personal shoppers, helping children select outfits, shoes and accessories that reflected their personalities and helped them feel ready for the first day of school.

Some of the day's most memorable moments included a six-year-old boy who ended the shopping trip by giving his volunteer a fist bump and declaring, "This is the best day ever." Two siblings currently living in different placements were unexpectedly reunited for the morning, sharing smiles and special moments together while shopping. Another young boy proudly showed off his new Sonic the Hedgehog T-shirt to everyone who passed by, beaming with excitement over his choice.

After filling their shopping carts, each child left with a backpack stocked with school supplies, ready to begin the school year with confidence. These simple but meaningful moments are possible because of people who choose to show up for children when they need it most.

We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors whose support made this special day possible: BDO, CenterPoint Energy Foundation, Houston Alumnae Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta, Junior League of Houston, Partners, Spark Energy, and Target. Their commitment to the children we serve helps create lasting memories and brighter futures.

Thank you to every volunteer, sponsor and supporter who helped make Childspree 2026 a success. Together, we are ensuring that children in our community start the school year feeling prepared, empowered, and cared for.
